Cheek Augmentation
Diminished volume in the cheeks occurs in everyone as a natural part of the aging process. Cheek augmentation using injectable fillers such as Juvederm® or facial implants plump the cheek area, restoring a fuller, more youthful appearance to the face. Cheek implants and cheek injections using soft tissue fillers or fat can also help patients achieve better facial balance and symmetry.
Who Is a Candidate for Cheek Augmentation?
Cheek augmentation helps patients with a gaunt, sunken facial appearance restore volume to the cheek area. It is also beneficial for patients who have naturally weak cheekbone projection that causes a lack of harmony between the cheeks and other facial features, as well as patients who have experienced facial wasting, or fat atrophy, as a result of HIV. Cheek injections are minimally invasive and are safe for almost any adult man or woman, however placement of permanent cheek implants requires surgery and thus, is safe only for patients who are healthy non-smokers.
How Is the Cheek Augmentation Procedure Performed?
Cheek augmentation with injectable fillers is an in-office procedure that takes less than an hour to perform and requires no downtime. Cheek implants require a 1-2 hour surgical procedure to place implants made of silicone or other synthetic material in the cheek area through incisions in your mouth or lower eyelids. When surgery is required, 1-2 weeks may be needed for cheek augmentation recovery, and it may take several weeks or months for all swelling and bruising to resolve.
